Lamborghini Huracán Automotive Photography in Derby
Drive-In Studio Shoot • Turntable • Automotive Photography
Some cars stop you in your tracks. This Lamborghini Huracán EVO Spyder in Verde Mantis was definitely one of those.
Shoot Info
Creative Concept | Studio Photography | Print production.
This shoot took place in our Derby drive-in studio, using the turntable to capture clean angles safely without repeatedly moving the vehicle. The aim was to create a mix of high-end artwork images for the client’s wall collection, alongside a lighter set suitable for future sales use.
The Photography Brief
The client wanted two things from the same shoot:
- Gallery-level images to print as artwork for their car collection space
- A smaller set of clean sales images that could be used later if the car is ever advertised
That meant creating a dramatic, high-end look for the artwork, alongside a brighter, cleaner set that could be used if the car is offered for sale in the future.

Vehicle:

Time Scale:
One day photography and two days editing
Key studio shots we captured
We planned the shoot around a few hero angles, then built out from there.
Main hero shots
- Side profile
- 3/4 angle (front and rear)
- Rear view
- Shot from above (to show shape and colour)
- Interior hero frame
Detail shots
A selection of close-ups to highlight the features and finish — the sort of images that make the car feel real and tactile.
Why having a drive in a studio with a turntable makes a big difference when photographing cars (especially with supercars)
With vehicles like this, safety isn’t optional; they are very expensive and are someone’s pride and joy.
A studio turntable helps because:
- The car stays in one controlled position while we rotate it into the angle we need
- We don’t have to keep starting it up and moving it around with light stands everywhere
- You don’t have to keep setting up lots of different lighting options because you can just move the vehicle
- It reduces risk of knocks, tight manoeuvres, and unnecessary handling
- It also helps protect the studio space (and the floor) from repeated tyre movement and rubber marks, making editing easier
For high-value automotive photography, it’s a smarter way to work — calmer, safer, and more precise results.

Lighting style: moody, with a second “future-proof” option
We researched the style beforehand and shared ideas with the client so we were aligned before the shoot day, which helps with the client’s expectations.
The client loved a darker, moodier look, so that became the main creative direction. That style suits supercars perfectly — it shapes the lines, controls reflections, and gives the images that “poster” feel. Using a light painting technique and stacking the images in the editing process, at the same time, we also captured a set of brighter images on a lighter background. Those are ideal for future sales use, or anywhere the car needs to look clean and clear, rather than dramatic.
The big challenge: reflections
Reflections are always the hardest part of studio car photography.
Unless you’re working inside a very deep cove, it’s normal to fight:
- Light stands appearing in paintwork
- Unwanted highlights
- Random reflections from the studio environment
The way we light and angle our shots helps minimise this in-camera, and our post-production workflow is designed to clean up the distractions while keeping the car looking natural (not over-edited).
Camera and lighting kit used
For this shoot we used:
- Canon EOS R5
- Canon Rf 28-70 f2
- Continuous video lighting (great for shaping highlights and controlling reflections in real time)
Continuous lighting makes it easier to fine-tune the look on glossy paint, because you can see exactly how the reflections are behaving before you press the shutter.

How long does a shoot like this take?
This is a big question for a studio shoot. It depends on the goal of the photography project. Things to consider: where will you be using the images for advertising, photography, artwork or just social advertising
- If you just need a small set of consistent angles, it can be done in half a day
- If you want a wide variety of looks, angles, and lighting setups, a full day gives you a much more extensive library of photographs to choose from.
The biggest difference-maker is planning. When the brief and shot list are clear, the day runs smoothly, and you leave knowing you’ve captured everything you need for your media needs.

Final delivery
The aim was to create a mix of high-end artwork images for the client’s wall collection, alongside a lighter set suitable for future sales use.
For this project we delivered:
- 4 fully edited hero images
- A selection of lighter sales images for future use
And we can scale that up or down depending on what a client needs — some projects want 5 hero frames, others want 30–60 images for a full sales library, all we do is charge for the extra edits.
